Nursery Assistant

Purpose:

​

  • To provide a dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to the children, ages 0-4 years, while at our Church in a clean environment. 

​

Responsibilities:

​

  • Help provide and maintain a Christian environment in which the children may grow physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually. This includes but is not limited to: feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer.

  • Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers. 

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to Sunday School. Childcare hours include every Sunday

    • Additional opportunities for more hours may be available depending on church programming. 

  • 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The nursery worker is expected to work all Sundays even if it falls on a holiday. 

  • Stay until the children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form. 

  • In the event of an emergency notify the parent and a staff member.  

  • Straighten the room and clean any toys/beds before leaving. 

  • Attend an evaluation after a 90-day probationary period and thereafter annually. 

  • Report to the Senior Pastor any issues which are hindering the carry out of the duties or responsibilities. 

  • Communicate in advance with the Senior Pastor or NextGen Pastor of any anticipated absences.

Qualifications:

​

  • A strong Christian faith experience.

  • Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0 to 4 with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities and backgrounds.

  • Have a love for children

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Satisfactory completion of background check and drug screening

  • Must complete a satisfactory completion of CPR and First Aid training for infants and children within the first three months of employment 

  • Must adhere to First Baptist Church of Topeka Child Protection Policy Guidelines.

  • Provide three references
